Juniors @ URSLC
Junior and Senior (age 14 and upwards), these are active members who perform lifesaving duties on the beach.
Whether new to Surf Lifesaving or stepping from our Nipper programme the ‘Rox’ Junior Lifeguard Program progresses young people (14-17) in their beach and ocean skills. This is where some begin to focus on specialty events with the goal to compete at provincial, national and inter-national competition.
Before you can compete, you are required to first complete the Junior Lifeguard Award (JLA). By the end of the course you’ll gain skills in first aid and CPR, water rescue techniques; knots and responsibilities of a lifeguard to name a few… the best part – the valuable life skill experience and comradery developed through the process of completing the program. But this is where it all begins…
With the Junior Lifeguard Award (JLA) comes kudos and responsibility, you are now qualified to perform full lifeguard duties under supervision and will be enlisted to a Duty Squad on a rostered basis.
As part of the coaching team the ‘Rox’ Junior Lifeguard programme has world class athletes coaching and mentoring our young people, helping to develop them at their own pace allowing for individuals to push their comfort zone boundaries at their readiness level. Some are training to emulate their heroes and go on to be a ‘Rox Star’ of the future while others are there to challenge themselves. Either way our ‘Juniors’ are part of a community that truly does make a difference
